  • iPhone users can now customize their preferred mobile email experience and make key details available at their fingertips.

  • Inbox Preview widget lets you search, check unread counts, compose, and preview messages all in one place.

There’s no question of whether people today are suffering from information and content overload. Whether it’s from looking at the news, constantly refreshing Twitter, watching another TikTok video, or even just trying to get through your emails — there’s simply too much content. Staying informed is healthy, being on top of your messages is good, but after a certain point it’s simply too much for a person to handle.

Studies have shown that information overload is more than just mentally taxing, it can actually have a physical impact on your well-being. These effects can range from memory loss, decreased efficiency, or even a tendency to make bad decisions about important things.

The problem of information overload has been especially true during the COVID-19 era, as many people lack many of the distractions that would normally offer healthy breaks away from their devices. A recent study showed that average time spent on mobile devices has increased by over 48% since the start of the pandemic as people spend increasing amounts of time indoors with not much to do.

Ding after ding, you’re urged to open one app after another, so you jump from Instagram to Facebook to Twitter back to Instagram again. Over and over the loop continues, taking up valuable time and mental space when so many of these alerts aren’t worth the effort of opening up the app. It’s a toxic cycle that belongs nowhere, but especially not in 2021. With the start of the New Year, now is the time to change up your habits and ensure that 2021 is the year you start really looking out for your mental well-being.

That’s exactly what Apple’s Widgets for iOS 14 can help with. Designed to fill in the details you want to see at a glance, but wouldn’t want to bother opening up an application for, Widgets offer you healthier, snack-sized pieces of information. For example, the iPhone Apple News Widget allows you to see a couple of headlines off of Apple News without having to doom scroll your way through Twitter, Weather Widgets let you check today’s weather at a glance from your home screen, Photo Widgets offer you a glimpse of special memories, and the Calendar Widget shows your day’s meetings without having to search and tap an icon.

Starting today, Edison Mail is joining the ranks of iOS 14 compatible apps with our own set of brand new Widgets. We’ve all been in the position where we need to send a quick email, open the app to type it out, and immediately get distracted by a slew of messages that could have been dealt with later. As with any daunting task, managing an overloaded inbox is best dealt with in bite sized pieces. Too much at once and you’ll be hit with fatigue and burnout.

With Edison Mail’s Widgets, you can make sure you’re never biting off more than you can chew. As nobody manages their emails the same way, we’ve created six different Widgets for you to choose from.

Inbox Preview allows you to search through your inbox, view how many unread emails you have, begin a new message, and preview your inbox all from your home screen.

Email Preview shows you your latest unread messages, and Email Preview Plus shows you your unread emails, compose new ones, and search.

Quick Compose is another simple Widget that allows you to get your thoughts down immediately. When inspiration strikes, you’re able to draft a new email on the fly without any needless extra taps.

Search Inbox lets you compose emails, search for messages, and check your inbox without having to leave your home screen.

Unread Count is one of our simplest Widget options, showing you how many unread emails you have in your Focused and Other inboxes without you needing to go into the app itself.

By default, our Widgets will show you the content in all the inboxes you’ve connected to Edison Mail, but you can edit the view you want by tapping and holding onto the Widget on your home screen and selecting another inbox. Edison Mail Widgets are fully customizable. Use as many different views as you like for any and all of the inboxes you have connected to Edison Mail.

Widgets are a natural extension of the inbox management features Edison Mail has been offering for years, adding to abilities to manage email overload like Block Sender, Unsubscribe, Block Read Receipts, Templates, and Assistant. To start off 2021 on the right foot, ensure that you avoid email burnout and start making email work for you.
