Our Approach

This Privacy Policy applies to the following websites: mail.edison.tech, assistant.edison.tech, trends.edison.tech, and our mobile applications Edison Assistant (formerly Smart Assistant by EasilyDo) and Edison Mail (formerly Email by EasilyDo), owned and operated by Edison Software (our "Services").

This Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, protection, use, sharing, and disclosure of information we collect when you visit our websites or use our mobile applications. You may access our Services from phones, tablets, and other mobile devices, as well as third-party applications. By your use of our Services, you consent to this Policy and our Terms of Service. This Policy also describes your choices regarding the use, access and correction of your personal information.

Apps & Services. The Email app is an application that lets you unify and better manage your email accounts by making your mail available to you in one place on your mobile device. The Email app allows software on your phone to interact directly with your mail provider over a secure connection to allow you to view, receive, and send email on your mobile device.

Our Edison Assistant is a virtual assistant application that is focused on completing tasks related to contacts, calendar, and mail.

Email Information Practices.

Edison accesses and processes your email messages to provide our services to you and to help us and other businesses understand aggregate trends. We differentiate between your personal emails and commercial emails to provide these services.

Personal Emails. Edison does not ever access the content of your personal email messages written or sent by users (for example, messages that contain user written travel info, event plans, purchase info, to-do lists, etc.) except for the limited purpose of providing notice to you that the message has arrived.

• We collect the email headers (with To/From, subject line information and first few words of the mail) solely to notify you when a new message arrives and then we immediately delete this information after providing the new message notification to your handset.

• We may also collect and store messages to improve our artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and to provide you with better features and services.

• This information is never shared with third parties and is deleted once the feature has been built or the data is no longer valid.

Commercial Emails. Edison accesses your commercial emails to provide our Services to you and to extract information from them to understand aggregate purchasing trends and to share data that cannot be linked back to you with our partners. Commercial emails are messages you receive from third parties about purchases, travel, reservations, event tickets, boarding passes, promotions, bills and package shipment, and similar transactions.

• We and our partners use the information (such as product name and price for example) to develop research about ecommerce market trends. Check here: trends.edison.tech

• We never share with partners any data we extract that contains personal information, such as your name, photo, phone numbers, postal addresses (for example, if it is included in your shipping information).

• We always encrypt / salt and hash email addresses (salted hashing is a technique to encrypt information) before sharing it with our business partners.

• The purpose of trends it to create aggregate research reports and our business partners are restricted to using your data for that purpose.

• We prohibit any trends research partners from attempting to re-identify users or use the information we share for any purpose other than creating aggregate reports and understanding ecommerce trends.

By linking our Services to your email or other internet accounts, you authorize us to collect, process, and retain information, including personal information, from past and future emails.

OPT OUT. You can read about your choices about information collection in the section: Your Choices to Manage Information below.

Push Notifications. If you opt in to receive push notifications, we will send you push notifications from time-to-time about any events or promotions that we may be running. If you no longer wish to receive these types of communications, you may turn them off at the device level.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Registration, Use of Services, and Website Visitor Information. By registering you may provide us with your information including, but not limited to, type of device, operating system version, your name, picture, email address and, in some instances, passwords, and your device identifier (IDFA). We may also collect preferences and demographic information from you and about you from third parties, and information about your website and app usage, sessions, actions, and how you interact with our applications. This data collection is intended to help us improve our features and your Edison experience.

We do not collect any passwords for your email accounts with Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook addresses.

Passive Collection. As is true of most websites and apps, we gather certain information automatically when you use our apps and visit our website. This information may include information on the type of device you use, operating system version and the device identifier (IDFA), internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, the files viewed on our site (e.g., HTML pages, graphics, etc.), operating system, date/time stamp, and/or clickstream data.

Information Collected by Email App. Please refer to Email Information Practices above that explains the information we collect from your email.

Information Collected by the Assistant App. The Edison Assistant App connects to your contacts, social networking accounts, location information, email accounts, document sharing accounts, and payment information, only if the user authorizes this practice by opting-in. The user can opt out of this service at any time by changing your connections within the settings page of the Assistant App. The following information may be collected if a user opts in to Edison’s Assistant service:

• Your Contacts. By using the Assistant App, you may provide us with your contacts’ information (such as names, email addresses, etc.). For example, you may provide us with your contacts’ email addresses when sending and receiving emails. Other Edison Assistant App users may provide us with information about you in a similar manner. With your permission, we collect and store information from your address book to provide the “Find Contacts” feature, remove duplicate contacts or merge contacts.

• Location Information from Your Device. When you give us explicit permission, we access your location and store the most recent location information from your device to provide features such as “Daily Commute,” within the “Traffic and Directions” category of our Assistant App

• Email Information. Please refer to Email Information Practices above that explains the information we collect from your email.

• Files & Attachments. We store files and attachments from emails associated with document sharing accounts on platforms like Evernote, OneDrive, and Box if you have given us permission in the Assistant App.

• Communications. We will retain information you provide when you communicate with us, such as any emails you send to customer support.

Tracking Technologies

Edison Software and its partners use cookies or similar technologies to analyze trends, administer our Services, track users’ interaction with our Services, and gather demographic information on our users. You can disable these cookies at any time, however, this may limit your use of certain features or functions. We do not use any cross-device data to track users. We do not respond to Do Not Track requests. We also do not track any of our website visitors.

Advertising

Other apps and services may use cookies or similar technologies to provide you advertising based upon your browsing activities and interests on other apps and services. If you wish to opt out of interest-based advertising click here. We do not collect information for advertising purposes and we do not show ads.

HOW WE USE INFORMATION

We use the information collected through our Services for the following purposes:

Provide and Improve Services. We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, provide, and personalize our Services and apps, and to develop new ones.

We may also collect names and email addresses of your contacts. When you provide us with this personal information about your contacts, we will only use this information for the specific reason for which it is provided. If you believe that one of your contacts has provided us with your personal information and you would like to request that it be removed from our database, please contact us at assistantsupport@edison.tech.

Ecommerce Trend Research. Please refer to Email Information Practices above that explains how we create and use the trends research data. You may view these trends here.

Communicate with You. We will use your information to communicate with you, including for marketing purposes and to provide customer support. By providing our service your email address, you consent to our using that email address to send you service-related notices and receipts. We may use your email address to send you announcements related to our products and services. Please see the Your Choices to Manage Information section for information about how to opt-out of such communications.

Analysis. Our Service may use certain information about you and/or your data internally for analytical purposes such as analyzing how our Services are used, diagnosing service or technical problems, and maintaining security. We encrypt all data in transit and at rest.

We use analytics software to better understand the functionality of our Mobile Software on your phone. This software may record information such as how often you use the application, aggregated usage data, performance data, and where the application was downloaded from.

App Usage & Website Visitor Information.

We use automatically collected information for a variety of purposes, including to:

• remember information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your use of our Services;

• provide custom content, and information;

• provide custom content, and information;

• determine the effectiveness of our Services;

• fix technology problems reported by our users or engineers that are associated with certain IP addresses;

• automatically update the application on your system and related devices.

HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION

We will always request your consent before sharing any of your information in a way not discussed in this Policy.

We take very seriously our responsibility to maintain the privacy of your personal information. We make certain information and research available to our business partners, service providers, and other third parties. These third parties may include the following:

Service Providers & Vendors. We may share your information with third party service providers and vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as application development, hosting, and maintenance. These service providers are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide their services to us.

Marketing & Analytics Partners. We partner with third party marketing and analytics services like Mailchimp, Facebook Analytics, Hockey App, Kochava, and Google Analytics to help us market and understand use of the Services. These third-party partners may receive encrypted information about your use of our Services and information about your visits to other online services. These service providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide their services to us.

Ecommerce Information and Research. Please refer to Email Information Practices above that explains how we create trends research data and share it.

Legal Compliance. In certain situations, Edison Software may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement. We may disclose to: (a) conform to the law, comply with legal process served on us or our affiliates, or investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities; (b) to enforce our Terms of Service, take precautions against liability, to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, to assist government enforcement agencies, or to protect the security or integrity of our site; and (c) to exercise or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of ourselves, our Services, customers, or others.

Corporate Change or Business Transfer. We may also transfer or assign your information in the course of a corporate change or business transfer including, but not limited to, divestitures, mergers, or dissolution.

YOUR CHOICES TO MANAGE INFORMATION

Opt-Out of Email Data Sharing for Trends. You can always decline to share your information for Edison Trends from the ‘Manage Privacy’ page in the Email app settings. If you do so, we will not include information extracted from your commercial emails with any third parties.

Revoke Access to Email & Social Network Accounts. You may choose to disconnect your email account or social networking accounts from our Services through your account settings. For steps on how to remove yourself from our Services please visit our FAQ pages for our Email App and for our Assistant App. If you no longer have access to your phone or your application, you can also contact your email account provider to revoke our access to your account, or contact us at mailsupport@edison.tech.

Data Retention. We may retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide your services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

Email Data Deletion. You can request deletion of any of your information collected and stored by Edison under the “Manage Privacy” settings within the Email app. For assistance with other apps, please contact us at mailsupport@edison.tech.

Unsubscribe. If you receive commercial emails from us, you may unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions contained within the email. Please note, even after you opt out from receiving commercial messages from us, you will continue to receive administrative messages from us regarding our Services.

SECURITY

It is your responsibility to keep your passwords private and secure. We strongly recommend against sharing your logins and passwords with others.

We take the protection of your information very seriously and employ measures through administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information against loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. We encrypt all data in transit and at rest. We take reasonable precautions to ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, but cannot guarantee these security measures will prevent third parties from obtaining information by illegal actions or attacks.

INTERNATIONAL USERS

If you are residing in the EU or other regions outside the US, please note that information collected through our Service, will be transferred to and processed in the US or elsewhere. These locations may not have the same data protection laws as the country in which you initially used our Services. By using our Services, you consent to any transfer and processing in accordance with this Policy.

HOW WE HANDLE MINORS’ INFORMATION

Our services are not intended for use by persons under the age of 13. If we become aware that a person under the age of 13 has opened an account or provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete the account and any such personal information.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

Our Services may contain links to other sites that are not under our control and have their own privacy policies. Please read over the rules and policies of third party sites before you proceed to use them. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, or content linked on websites, and we provide these links solely for the convenience and information of our users.

PRIVACY POLICY UPDATES

We may update this Policy from time to time, so you should review this Policy periodically. When we change the Policy, we will update the ‘last modified’ date at the top of this Policy. If we change our Policy, we will notify you of such changes by posting them on this page and/ or by a notification within our Services or via an email. Changes to this Policy are effective when they are posted on this page. Your continued use of our Services after the revised Policy has become effective indicates that you have read, understood, and agreed to the current version of this Policy.
